Practising the Way of Jesus

To experience the life of Jesus, we have to adopt the lifestyle of Jesus.’ John Mark Comer

We want to be a church where everyone is personally committed to following Jesus.

What does it mean to be a follower of Jesus?

Jesus is the central and defining figure in the spiritual life. He is God among us: God speaking, acting, healing, helping. 'Salvation' is the big word into which all these words fit. The name 'Jesus' means 'God saves' - God present and at work, saving in our time and place - right here, right now!

We believe that salvation is God's gift to us in Jesus. Having saved us Jesus makes the entirety of the spiritual life accessible to us. The pathway to this way of life is found in our response to Jesus’ invitation to live with him. In the gospels we see Jesus teaching his disciples through his lifestyle, as he moves through rhythms of prayer and solitude, to teaching and service in community. In doing so he gave us a way of life to imitate.

By paying attention to Jesus’ way of life - His rhythms of prayer and engagement with Scripture, His times of regular retreat and deep love of table fellowship - we begin to learn a new way of being human that works a change inside of us and gently transforms everything around us.

Jesus extends His invitation to each of us:

"Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
